Charlotte, NC (Sports Network) - Carolina wide receiver Steve Smith was carted off the field Monday night after breaking his left fibula during the Panthers' 24-14 loss to Green Bay.

Smith was injured late in the fourth quarter when he was tackled from behind by Packers linebacker Hannibal Navies. The fourth-year wideout, who caught six passes for 60 yards, wore a towel over his head while he was carted from the sideline to the locker room.

Smith, 25, re-signed with Carolina in the offseason for six more years. He had a great season for the NFC champion Panthers in 2003, pulling in 88 receptions for 1,110 yards and seven touchdowns.
